About Me

Author Avis Marcus

Avis Marcus is a praying woman who was led by the Holy Spirit to create Words That Heal, a website to promote and encourage Christian development. She is also a published author. Her book of thirty-one days of meditations and prayers titled Prayers in the Wilderness, is a reflection of her personal wilderness and testimony, but it touches the readers’ hearts and souls because they can identify with her trials and afflictions. Additionally, she writes articles for Stay Focused Magazine, a quarterly publication.



WORKSHOP LEADER

As a workshop leader she develops topics to further Christian development and creates an atmosphere that produces harmony, learning, and group participation.



WOMEN’S MINISTRY LEADER AND INSTRUCTOR

For several years she led a women’s ministry. In that position she was also a biblical teacher. Subsequently, she participated in another women’s ministry and assisted with writing responsibilities for its publication. Avis continues to be involved in biblical instruction.



EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in English Education from Ohio University and a Master’s Degree in Education from Cleveland State. She was a public school educator for thirty years, and continues to enjoy relationships with former students.



COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Avis places importance on community service. She has volunteered at a women’s shelter, instructed women’s groups in work skills, and participated in a mentoring organization for teenagers. She believes in helping individuals achieve their fullest potential.



PERSONAL BACKGROUND

Avis is the mother of one son from a former marriage. He is married with two children, which makes her a proud and boastful grandmother. Additionally, she is a member of First Nazarene Baptist Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, and participates in a women’s prayer group.

This book is a combination of personal experiences and guiding spiritual principles to comfort those who are in a “breaking” season. This is a time that upsets our lives. It may occur in physical illness, financial hardship, relationship upheavals, or other circumstances. We may not realize what is occurring because it can happen SUDDENLY!

However, even though it is not initially believable to us, God does not leave us broken. He has a purpose and a plan.
In this book, the author desires to console those entering into this untraveled territory, and inform them God’s perfecting power will surpass their breaking. She combines her experiences with biblical accounts of brokenness. Her desire is to assure the reader, beauty will come after the breaking!
