The 31-day devotional, Prayers In The Wilderness, is a reminder to me that we do not obey the Word of God fully, nor often enough in our lives. The Bible is very clear in telling us to study, in fact it reads, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” II Timothy 2:15
Prayers In The Wilderness is organized so thoughtfully and thoroughly. Each chapter contains a meditation, prayer, scripture, and reflection. This format is what leads us into a systematized and thought-out study of the Bible. This book does not just tell you too communicate with God, it leads you into a time of communication with God and meditation on God’s Word.
I love the prayers of this devotional because they emphasize speaking the scriptures to life. “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11 From cover to cover the reader is given scripture to repeat that can come to pass in their life through faith and consistency. Taking the weight off the reader and placing it where it belongs, on God.
There are so many shining examples of this. I would like to share one of my favorites from pages 47 and 48 about overcoming anxiety; an overwhelming feeling we can all identify with at some point. “I know I do not possess the ability to solve the issues of my life, but it still does not prevent me from experiencing anxiety.” (page 47) “Please do not allow pride to infiltrate my being and seize my ability to render honest prayers to You, prayers that decrease worry and anxiety and usher in peace and understanding. Remind me of your promise to give me, ‘Beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness’ Isaiah 61:3.” (page 48)
I highly recommend you get this book and use it to study the Bible, use it to increase your prayer life, and use it for clarity in times of trouble.
